Solo Queue, the most toxic place in the whole world. This is where everyone is an idiot except you. Whatever game you play, solo queue is a cesspool of tryhards, casuals, gamerzz and many more animals.
Here is a guide on how to survive and even more so, keep your sanity!
DO NOTE! I am a SEA player and I have experienced how toxic the SEA community is and will be basing this off my MOBA experience… So shout out to the Dota 2, LoL and ML:BB community!!
- Focus on YOU
First thing to understand in Solo Queuing is the Solo part. You have to know that the only thing you have control of in the game is yourself. You can only really focus on your game, because you, as an individual, sees the game differently from others. By focusing on your game, not only can you possibly solo carry. You can strengthen your game sense and fundamentals as you become more aware of your game state due to it all being observed by you.
I get it, some mistakes in-game are really due to teammates’ actions, but there’s no point in being toxic. Playing the blame game and trash talking teammates does not suddenly make them better players.
Understand that not everyone sees the game the same way you do and do your best to compensate for their mistakes. Adding to this, next everyone you play with is playing the game the same way you are, because some may be grinders, casuals, etc. Empathizing with these animals can go a long way.
- Stop the Tilt Queue
Speaking of losing because of teammates, we have a tendency to “run it back” or play until we win. We have that gambler mentally of “surely I’ll win this one after losing so many games already.” This leads to tilt queuing or playing in an already agitated state.
Being tilted even before the game starts is a horrible experience for both you and your teammates. You lash out quicker and start trash talking your teammates. You experience heavy load on your mental state, which causes bad gameplay. Racking up even more Ls. Tilt queuing is not a good way to rank up. But don’t worry, there is a solution to this!
Introducing… The 2 Pump Chump method!! I picked this up from Jenkins, a Dota 2 analyst/panelist and Content Creator. He says to prevent tilt queuing or to preserve your mental, every player needs to take breaks. With that being said, the method works by taking a break of at least 5-10 minutes after every 2 consecutive losses. By doing so, you can cool off and wait for the rank player pool to reset (hopefully with better teammates).
By following the 2 pump chump method, I saw my mental state being better in game. It gave me time to reflect on how my gameplay has been, so I can do better the next games. Mental rest is important, because you wouldn’t want to resent the game you enjoy playing.
- Getting that PMA
PMA stands for Positive Mental Attitude. If anything were to stick after reading this article, may it be this one. Having a positive mental attitude is what really allows you to survive in Solo queue. This is what gives you clarity in-game and the strength to not tilt. But how does one keep their PMA?
Positive mental attitude is gained through understanding and accepting that things will not always go your way. You can’t let one failed gank dictate that pace of the game entirely. Morale is a big part of the game and bringing your team down with your negativity isn’t helping anybody. When playing, try to focus on the positives that happen in-game rather than the failed opportunities. By capitalizing on the positives, you can double on those opportunities and win. When being hyper focused on the bad parts, you may find yourself playing not to lose rather than playing to win.
That great thing about PMA is that it makes the games fun again. You learn to accept most outcomes and still have the energy to play on. The positive mental attitude is contagious, so be sure to infect as many possible and keep it light and breezy!!
That’s it on my end. These are the top 3 tips I have when it comes to surviving solo queue. These tips are what helped me stay in love with every MOBA game I played and to spread the positive vibes to the whole community! As an added bonus, these things are applicable in real life as well!
